Raquel Estupinan

Editor-in-Chief

Raquel Estupinan is a fourth-year English major with a
minor in Professional Writing, emphasis in Professional
Editing. Her academic interests include gender and
cultural issues, and literature. Raquel is a writing tutor
at the Campus Learning Assistance Services at UC
Santa Barbara, and has also worked at Farmers
Insurance since her second year at UCSB. She hopes
to attend the University of Southern California’s graduate
school of journalism. To relax, Raquel watches movies,
enjoys singing, creativity and reading the
news. She would also like to visit Italy and Spain.

 


Jeanette Barnard

Jeanette Barnard is a fourth-year English and Philosophy major
with a minor in Professional Writing. After graduation, she plans
to work at the Capitol in Sacramento doing public policy work.
Her interests include Shakespeare, existentialism, crossword
puzzles and traveling. She lived in Manchester, England last
year, and hopes to someday live in Boston, San Francisco
and Seattle as well.


Austin Chen

Austin Chen is a second-year Economics major. His current
legal interests include medical malpractice and criminal law,
and he hopes to attend law school upon graduation. Aside
from his interest in law, Austin is currently a Resident Assistant
in the Anacapa Residence Hall, and is interning for the Santa
Barbara Pre-Trial Services Division. In his free time, Austin
enjoys playing basketball, cycling, watching movies, and hopes
to learn how to surf before graduating.


Robert Cheney

Robert Cheney is a third-year Sociology major and History
minor from Chula Vista, California. His academic interests
include Social Theories, Deviance, and 20th century United
States History. Robert is also a member of the Sociology
Association on campus. After graduation, he plans to take a
year off to travel. Upon returning, he plans to attend either
law school or a graduate school for sociology. Aside from
academics, Robert likes to learn various musical instruments,
root for San Diego sports teams, and cook.


Andrea Hoffman

Andrea Hoffman is a fourth-year Communication Major and
 participant in the Technology Management Program at UC
Santa Barbara. In addition to working on the Law and
Society Journal,
Andrea is the Vice President of Business
Development for SB Media Group. In addition to her work
at UCSB, Andrea has completed internships with Senator
Feinstein in Washington D.C. and Congresswoman Lois Capps
in Santa Barbara, CA. After graduation she hopes to take a
year off to travel and then attend law school.

 


David Jonas

David Jonas is a second-year Global Studies and Philosophy
major from Los Angeles. He currently sits on the UCen
Governance Board and chairs its Programming Committee.
He has also worked as a caseworker in the Office of the
Student Advocate and proxy on A.S. Finance Board. David
has experience working at Warner Brothers Legal Department
and BermanBraun Productions in Los Angeles. For the last
five years he has been involved with United in Harmony, an
organization that takes homeless children to sleep-away camp.
He has traveled extensively throughout Italy, Israel, and
Spain. David plans to attend law school after graduating
from UCSB.

 


Sara-Fay Katz

Sara-Fay Katz is a third-year student from South Lake Tahoe,
California
pursuing a double major in Film and Media Studies
and English with an emphasis in Literature and the Culture of
Information. Her academic interests focus on the convergence
of literature and media, as well as both entertainment and
internet law. She is currently working as an Assistant Editor
of the Daily Nexus news publication. Sara-Fay has plans to
attend law school upon graduating from UC Santa Barbara.
She is also passionate about movies, music, traveling and
leading a healthy and physically active lifestyle.


Jennarose Manimtim

Jennarose Manimtim is a graduating third-year majoring in
English with an emphasis in Literature and the Mind, an
interdisciplinary approach to literature, combining it with
psychoanalysis, philosophy, and neuroscience. She is also
pursuing two minors: Spanish and Art History. She was
involved in the university newspaper, the BottomLine as a
writer, and is currently working with Spectrum, the literary
magazine for the university’s College of Creative Studies.
After graduation, she hopes to work in the publication field
as an editor. During her free time she enjoys reading,
spending time with her dog, baking or cooking, and
taking long walks to watch the sunrise, sunset, and
everything in between.

 


Sara Mirtorabi

Sara Mirtorabi is a fourth-year Political Science, Feminist
Studies major, Professional Writing with an emphasis in
Business Communication minor at UC Santa Barbara. This
is her second year as an editor for the Law and Society
Journal
. Sara has interned with lawyers and a Los Angeles
city Councilman. However, she believes that her experience
on the Law and Society Journal Editorial Board is in direct
harmony with her exposure to the field of law. Born and raised
in Los Angeles, Sara has been exposed to the professional
field of law and intends on applying to law schools
in the fall with the hopes of pursuing a career in law.


Hillary Nakano

Hillary Nakano is a third-year Asian American Studies and
Feminist Studies double-major from Oakland, California.
Her academic interests include gender/social inequality as
well as civil rights, and hopes to attend law school upon
graduation. For the past two summers Hillary has participated
in the Nikkei Youth Cultural Heritage Program, traveling to
Japan
for one month at a time, immersing herself within the
culture and spreading goodwill relations. In her spare time,
Hillary loves to watch basketball, go shopping, debate about
feminist issues, and most importantly, spend time with
her family and friends.

 


Patty Nam

Patty Nam is in her third and final year at UC Santa
Barbara, pursuing a double major in English and
Art History. In addition to spending her weekdays
at school in Santa Barbara, her weekends are
devoted to being a Sunday school teacher for high
school students at her home church in Los Angeles,
California. When not studying, Patty enjoys Yelping,
exploring museums, keeping up with sports on ESPN,
reading, writing, and indulging in her favorite desserts
(cupcakes, fruit tarts, pastries....). After this year, she plans to spend time in Washington,
D.C. and to possibly study abroad in Asia before enrolling in law school somewhere on
the East Coast to study International Law or Intellectual Property.

 


Marita Soler

Marita Soler is a fourth-year Political Science major. She was
born in Lima, Peru, and lived there until the age of 8. In the past,
she has worked for Obama for America, Equality for All, and
various congressional races in Orange County where she calls
home. July 13, 2008 changed Marita's life because she had the
honor to shake President Barack Obama’s hand. Aside from
politics, she is a fan of cheesecake, salsa dancing, the show
Friends, shopping, singing in the shower, cute boys, and
romantic comedies.
